University of Tampa wins a sloppy one over Florida Tech

In a sloppy first half both teams struggled to find their offense. It was filled with turnovers, missed shots, and fouls. IMG_7971Midway through the first half the teams traded three’s and seemed to find a groove. The University of Tampa women were clearly the more talented team but Florida tech played them hard and refused to back down. You could see the intensity that the Florida Tech women brought into the game just by watching the intensity of their coach on the sideline. Aisha Rodney #34 for UT dominated down low in the first half grabbing rebounds and making contested layups and that mixed with some decent shooting allowed UT to built a 10 point lead going into halftime.

The second half was a complete 180 compared to the first half.  Kayk Wilson #20 for Florida Tech came out and carried the entire team on her shoulders. She hit shot after shot and hit big shots when they were needed. Florida Tech was IMG_7957able to eat into the lead and cut it down to six points but UT was too strong and was able to push the lead up to 13. Tech pressed a lot the second half but it was usually to no avail as UT was able to get up the court and break the press most of the time. With strong play by Florida Tech they were able to cut the lead to three and the score stood at 51-48. Wilson #20 from Tech had the green light to shoot and she wasn’t shy about shooting and making huge shots. With her shooting Tech was able to take the lead with two minutes left and put the score at 51-52. With 47 seconds left  Illyssa Vivo #24 from UT hit a three pointer to put her team up by two but Tech wasIMG_7980 able to tie the game up 54 all on the next possession. Tech got possession of the ball and called a timeout with 9 seconds left but a missed shot took the game to overtime.

UT started overtime with back to back three’s to put the score at 60-54 and Tech was never able to recover. Tech made one final run but late fouls by Tech allowed UT to keep a slight lead built from strong free throw shooting. In a game where Wilson #20 from Florida Tech was the best player on the floor the team game prevailed and the University of Tampa was able to come away with a big win.
