The No. 1 University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team was business as usual against SIAC Champion Clafin University Panthers. The Panther knew that would have to play their game to have a chance against highly favored Spartans. The Spartans took the first set 25-11 and never looked back. Coach Capers from Clafin states “I felt my team was nervous from the gate and did not get on the same page.” Not being in sync was just what Tampa needed to take the second set 25-7. The nucleus of the Spartans Jessica Wagner, Kahley Patrick and Berkley Whaley were excited to see their depth play well today. In the third set the Panthers sprinted to a 6-2 lead. Coach Catanach from Tampa states ” I am amazed at how many deflecting and the way they play every point all the way through.” The Spartans fought back and captured the set 25-19. Next up for Spartan’s is Valdosta State.
