Story by Yousaf Khan:
The University of North Carolina Football team is coming a successful 3 year run in ACC Coastal division where they have at least finished in the top 3 in the standings and won the division in 2015. A lot of production offensively is gone from the team that went 8-5 last year, including number #2 overall pick QB Mitch Trubisky.
Many pundits are not picking UNC to contend for the division title and to finish in the middle of the pack due to all the lost players. During the ACC Media Days held in Charlotte on July 13 and 14, head coach Larry Fedora, offensive lineman Bentley Spain, and cornerback M.J. Stewart met with media to discuss the upcoming season. With all the losses on offense, Coach Fedora stated, “You guys know that we’ve lost quite a bit of production on the offensive side of the ball, so our defense this year is going to have to carry us while these young guys on offense grow up a little bit.” He also stated that “No matter what the expectations are on the outside, we still expect to compete for a Coastal Division championship.”
Offensive lineman Bentley Spain on the departure of Trubisky and the new qb battle , “ we are definitely miss him and wish him the best, but the next guy is going to step up, and we’re excited about all the guys competing for that position.” Cornerback M.J. Stewart was asked about the personality of this year’s program “I would say hungry. Just for the fact that there are so many questions surrounding our team…and you know, we use that as a team to motivate us…we’re going to continue to work hard through training camp and be one of the best teams in the ACC and in the country.”
