EUGENE, Ore. – Only the Florida Gators could believe they could win the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championship after placing 6th in the 2016 SEC Outdoor Championship and 7th in the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championship.
Going into the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championship head coach Mike Holloway stated “We are a better team on the national level.” Things did not go as plan that day. Being from Tampa we know they have the talent to make some noise but things just did not look like it was coming together.
Today is a new day and the crown will be coming back to Gainesville for the third time. While watching Eric Futch and TJ Holmes cross 1st and 2nd in the 400M Hurdles to add 18 points, I immediately looked to see if super man Jarrion Lawson had a team in the 4 x 400M relay that could spoil this and the answer was no. All Florida had to do was place 6th in the relay to win the title , which is no problem for a team stacked with 400 Meter runners.
Sr. Arman Hall captured the 400M title earlier ahead of LSU stars Fitzroy Dunkley and Michael Cherry. Najee Glass was 5th for the Gators before being disqualified while fellow Gator Kunle Fasasi added 3 points.
The race was on and the Gators were in the lead going into the final turn before LSU wanted to show what they could do. Florida would finish 2nd but take the championship.
