Tampa, Florida — On October 28th the University of South Florida jumped out to a 42-14 lead at the half and held on to keep their bid to host the AAC Championship alive. The Bulls posted record breaking stats on route to a 52-45 win over No. 22 Navy.
All week we kept asking the question will the Bulls be able to stop Navy’s new savior Will Worth from Newsome high from running the battleship up and down USF’s coastline? We knew the Gulf Coast Offense would do what they have been doing all year and would need to be focus to help avenge last weeks 46-30 lost. We had as idea the Bulls would run wild but not that wild. USF scored a touchdown on all but one drive in the first half and the one they did not score on was a fumble on about the 2 yard line when Mitch Wilcox stretched out. On the 6 touchdown on 6 drives all Coach T had to say about that is “That’s Bulls football.” Bad call refs lol.
Lets break down how well the offense played. Quinton Flowers started the scoring off showing the defense just how much speed they are going to have to deal with all night. He went straight up the middle for the score. Flowers stated, “That is the way they drew up the play.” The next touchdown came when D’Ernest Johnson broke some arm tackles and sprinted 23 yards. Mr. Johnson picked up his 1st 100 yard game while NFL Legend and family member Edgerrin James encouraged every yard. Mr. Marlon Mack got in on the act gutting the defense on the next drive for a 85 yards touchdown. Please find the video on this play is all I will say about that. When your offense has 190 yards off 9 carries and 3 touchdowns in the 1st quarter the opposing defense is going to be staring in the back field and that is not a good thing because there is a such thing as a play action pass. Quinton Flowers was able to make an easy pass to wide open Elkanah Dillon for a 41-yard touchdown. My arm is not that great but I could have made that throw. Bulls up 28-0 in the 1st quarter
What happen Coach Ken Niumatalolo? “We ran into a buzzsaw. We knew what they had in Flowers, Mack and Adams. We found out really quick how Quinton’s hamstring was doing.” Navy wanted to keep the ball out of USF’s play-makers hand but when USF is scoring this quick it is going to be a long day.
Good news for Navy is that Will Worth was unstoppable. He had 399 yards and accounted for 5 touchdowns. 4 on the ground and 1 in the air. Coach Taggart was not pleased with the defense in the second half. He states, “We knew they had to throw the ball to get back in the game. It is very disappointing for us to give up those yards at the end.” The game looks closer than it was. Great job USF giving the fans a quality win vs a quality opponent.
