STATESBORO, Ga. — Georgia Southern scores 21 points in the first quarter and then soared to an easy 54-0 win over Savannah State.
Favian Upshaw scored 2 touchdowns on the ground and 2 more through the air. He finished the game 7 of 10 for 115 yards and 1 interception. “I felt good tonight. I will be thinking about the interception but my mechanics are a lot better.” Georgia Southern is known for running the ball and running it well so I would assume no one was looking them to have 185 in the air. Kevin Ellison was perfect tonight going 5 of 5 for 70 yards. Montay Crockett look unstoppable on his 3 catches for 73 yards. 73 must be his lucky number because he also had four punt returns for 73 yards.
Matt Breida “Mr. #HeGone” gave the fans a little bit of what to expect this season when he sprinted to a 26 yards untouched touchdown. Matt posted 10 carries for 68 yards. “It was great, the fans were loud and it was a great win for coach Summers and his family.” The work horse for tonight was Demarcus Godfrey with 14 carries for 124 yards. His longest run was 40 yards to go with an impressive 8.9 average.
That Eagle’s defense lead by Ironhead Gallon pitched the shutout against the Tigers offense.
They held them to 114 total yards and 1 of 9 on 3rd down conversions. The Tigers did get 80 yards through the air which is something that can help against future foes in the MEAC.
Coach Tyson Summers on his 1st win as the new head coach. “We played hard and physical but need to work on our penalties.”
