FSU vs Clemson preview

The College Football Selection Committee has spoken ranking Clemson at the top of the poll at number one, just in time for this weekends’ high profile ACC match up against Florida State, who has to be chopping at the bit to redeem themselves, after that heart wrenching loss to Georgia Tech on a blocked 6 field goal return for a game winning 78 yard touchdown, as the clock struck zero.

Normally in this match up, the rankings go the other way, with FSU boosting the higher rankings, however this time it’s Clemson ranked number one for the first time since 1981, that being the Associated Press Poll. Being ranked number one means you are the target of bulletin board motivational material for your opponent, if nothing else, when you play number one, and if number one is your conference rival you get twice focused.

Clemson is unblemished at 8-0 with the nations’ 11th best offense scoring more than 40 points a game while FSU is 7-1 and ranked 16th in the playoff rankings. A win this week by Clemson assures them a spot in the ACC Championship Game representing the Atlantic Division scheduled for Dec, 5th in Charlotte, host site Bank of America Stadium. These two normally battle for that spot, in the last five series games the tiger has been chopped up by the Tomahawk 4 times, again if FSU wins they go.

The two stars in the game are Deshawn Watson and Dalvin Cook one of these guys should be the difference maker for his team. Watson won this week’s ACC top back award for his performance against NC State where he threw 5 touchdowns for 383 yards, and ran for one. Dalvin Cook did not play last week against Syracuse he is a bit banged up with a hammy and an ankle injury, but is still one of the top running backs in the country as the 2nd leading rusher. The argument among college football fanatics is the best running back in the land is either Cook or Lenard Fournett of LSU.

Jimbo Fisher may have made a great coaching decision by not allowing Cook to play or practice last week allowing him to get well for this one “the ACC showcase game of the week”. Clemson is riding an 11 game winning streak as Georgia Tech broke Florida States 28 game winning streak in the ACC.

This game will boast the perennial powerhouse and the other teams return to glory.
