USF held their Home opener against the Seawolves from Stony brook. This is the first meeting between the two teams in 7 years since Sept 4 2010 when the Bulls defeated Stony Brook 59-14. The Bulls new head coach Charlie Strong told the AP on Friday “You always look for a big improvement from Game 1 to Game 2, which we should have,” Strong said. That would prove to be a Challenge for USF. The Sea wolves struck first with a blocked punt by DB Augie Contressa on the Bulls Goal line with almost 7 minutes to go. USF would answer back on a 73 yard drive capped off by a 1 yard rush by RB Darius Tice. Stony Brook would kick a 36 yard field goal with right under 4 mins left in the half. These would be the only points scored in a mostly 3 and out first half for both teams.
In the 3rd quarter Quinton Flowers would march the Bulls down the field 80 yards ending in a TD pass to WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling. At the 49 second mark in the 3rd quarter Tajee Fullwood returned a punt for 39 yards deep into SeaWolves territory. This would set up a 33 yard Field goal kick by Emilio Nadelman. The 4th quarter saw an impressive 54yd touchdown run by Seawolves RB Stacy Bedell. This would not be enough to overcome the Bulls who score off a 65 yard TD pass from Flowers to WR Tyree McCants and a TD run by RB Darius Tice. This was another slow start by the 2-0 Bulls. Head Coach Charlie Strong would say after the game “We have played 2 games, but we have yet to play 4 quarters.” The Bulls next matchup will be the Connecticut Huskies on Sep 9 at 12pm.
