Bulls look great to start 20th season

Tampa, FL. — The University of South Florida Bulls started of their 20th season with a great 56-20 win over Towson University.

On the 1st play of the game Marlon Mack gashed the defense for a 19 yard run and everyone was thinking this maybe a rough day for the defense. The next 2 plays did not net many yards. On 3rd and 9 Quinton FLOWERS completed the pass to Ryeshene Bronson to keep the drive going. Two plays later Quinton FLOWERS connected with Darius Tice for 43 yards to put the Bulls up 7-0. USF only needed 1:39 to go 75 yards for the score. Towson University 1st drive stalled after 3 plays only gained 4 yards.

The next Bulls drive did not go well. Quinton FLOWERS pass was picked off by Dixon Pettus for no gain. 20576489734_c373408b9d_zThe Tigers were not able to get the touchdown on the drive but walked away with 3 points on Aidan O’Neill 29 yard field goal. USF defense stayed strong while facing a 1st and goal at the 10. Towson is probably wishing they never kicked off to Rodney Adams who return the ball 52 yards to give the Bulls great field position. Before the defense could catch their breath former Lakewood star Marquez Scantling catch of 28 yards put the Bulls in the redzone. Marlon Mack made it count with a 7 yard run for the touchdown.

Bulls lead 14-3 to end the quarter.

TOWSON 1st drive of the second quarter gave them some hope. Morgan Mahalak pass to Christian Summers for 56 yards put them on the 1. Darius Victor capped the drive with the one yards score.

The Bulls next two touchdowns were setup by the “Bull Sharks.”
On fourth and 2 the Bulls forced a fumble which was recovered by Jaymon Thomas for no gain. USF’s up-tempo offense loves to strike quick and that is just what they did. Quinton FLOWERS connected with Marquez Scantling for 51 yards to put the Bulls up 21-10. The next setup came when Local standout from Hillsborough High Nigel Harris intercepted a pass and returned it 49 yards. 1st and 10 on the 5!! Quinton FLOWERS caps the drive with the easy touchdown

Bulls lead 28-10 at the half.

DSC_0736 The Flood gates were opened up in the 3rd quarter were the Bulls add 3 more scores. They were unstoppable and scored on each drive. Rodney Adams was able to get loose for 2 runs of 17 yards on the drive. He was rewarded with the green light to end the drive on a 4 yard run for the touchdown.
Quinton FLOWERS added another score on a 7 yard run. The defense got back in the mix with a sack / fumble which was scoped up by Nate Godwin for 13 yards. I feel like I am saying the same thing over with different names. QB Brett Kean 1st pass connects with D’Ernest Johnson for 23 yards and a touchdown.

Bulls lead 49-17 at the end of the 3rd.

We are not going to spend any more time on this. The game ends with USF 56 to Towson 20.
Quinton FLOWERS was 8 of 18 for 178 yards. 2 touchdowns on the ground and 2 in the air.
Marlon Mack gained 58 yards and 1 touchdown before being injured. Get well soon we need you.
Marquez Scantling was the top receiver with 79 yards and another Bulls touchdown.
The defense was everywhere. 3 sacks, 7 tackles for lost and an interception.

Next up for the Bulls is Northern Illinois who recruits well in Florida. Last time we seen them was a 52-23 lost to Marshall in the Boca Raton Bowl. We will see if that recruiting works in their favor or not. Go Bulls!!
