Tampa, — The University of South Florida men’s basketball started their season off with a win over Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. The Bulls were just to strong down low and pulled away with 84-73 win.
Marcus Barham for the rattlers started the scoring off with making 3 3 pointers to take a quick 11-10 lead. He ended the games as the lead scorer with 22 points shooting 5 of 9 from 3 point land. USF was able to get back in the game with a pair of 3’s by Troy Holston and Geno Thorpe. The Bulls then stampeded to a 33 -18 lead and never looked back. The score at the half was 45-32 . USF scored 28 points in the paint and 13 points off 2nd chances in the 1st half.
FAMU did not give up in the 2nd half and actually out scored USF 41-39. The Rattler’s defense applied some pressure which caused the Bulls to turn over the ball 11 times. They were able to capitalize on that and cut into the lead 62-57 with 10:17 remaining. USF went back to the paint where Ruben Guerrero was having a great time all night. He ended the game with the double-double, 13 points to go with his career high 16 rebounds. Top scores for the Bull were Bo Zeigler (15) and Geno Thorpe (19)
UP next for the Bulls will be a home game against Elon on Thursday at 7 p.m
