BCU wins the real Classic 29-24 over FamU

On November 18th the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Rattles and the Bethune–Cookman University Wildcats squared for another epic battle at the Florida Classic.

The Rattlers are 3-7 coming off a heart breaking lost to Howard while the 6-4 Wildcats are coming off a 13-10 win over North Carolina Central. When you you look at the records you say BCU should win this easy. The crowd of almost 48,000 got a chance to watch arguably the best bands in the land preform and a comeback win. Lets get into the game action so you can continue to enjoying Orlando.

1st play of the game Famu’s Antonio Miller gets the sack on Larry Brihm for 9 yards pinning them on the 1 yard line. The next play Jamaruz Thompkins gets bottled up for a safety and the crowd went wild until the face mask penalty erased all of that. With some breathing room Mr. Brihm was able to move the ball down the field until Famu forced the turnover on downs at their own 31 yard line. The Rattlers wasted no time trying to get the game under control.  Their 1st play  was 15 yards catch from Ryan Stanley to  Kareem Smith. The next play Ricky Henrilus gets 13 yards for another 1st down and that is where the drive stalled. Famu punts the ball back to BCU.  The Wildcat offense was able to put a complete drive together which was capped with a 35 yards TD catch from Larry  Brihm to Ja-Wuan Lumas. (BCU 7 – FamU 0 ) FamU was able to get the ball moving as well but was only able to get the field goal on the next drive. (BCU 7 -FamU 3) Both teams added another score and were tied 10-10 at the half. Normally you would get some food or something to drink but not at a Classic because these half time shows are legendary. Sometime fans leave right after the bands leave the field.  As always the shows were great but lets get back to the game. FamU took the lead in the 3rd quarter when Ricky Heneilus rushed for 4 yards. Ricky ended the game with 95 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. (FamU 17 – BCU 10) The Rattlers defense was able to force a fumble on the next drive and 37 yards later the offensive was back in the endzone.  (FamU 24 -BCU 10) This where you grab your keys and start to deciding your plans for tonight. If you did that and you are a Rattler fan you did the right thing. If you did that and you are a Wildcat fan shame on you. Where is your faith?

COACH Terry Sims stated, Honestly, nothing changed. We didn’t waver. We have been here before, and that’s everything that was said on our sideline. You know, we have been down before. We’ve had close games before. If you practice this way and prepare your team, then when this situation comes, you don’t have guys panicking. We just continue to play.

BCU scored 19 points in the 4th quarter.  Larry Brihm had 2 touchdowns on the ground. He finished the game with 280 passing yards and 1 touchdown in the air.  The Wildcats were able to kill the last drive when Diquan Richardson intercepted Ryan Stanley. (BCU 29 – FamU 24)

A Word from FAMU Coach Alex Wood

“Well, the greatest takeaway is the way we competed for 60 minutes today. I mean, for our guys is to look at that and say, hey, you know… And we’ve known all along what we’re capable of doing. There’s no question about that, but the take away is just learning how to compete and finish out and we did that today, you know. And so you know, the takeaway, is, hey, make sure you’re always prepared and make sure there’s good communication with everybody. ”

A Word from BCU Quarterback Larry Brihm

LARRY BRIHM: Basically, you know, through the five years that I’ve been here, these games that we’ve played against FAMU has just been a win-win thing for us, and it’s a win mindset, and I wanted to keep that tradition going with this program. I just want to keep our bagging rights, as everybody knows. And it just was a great feeling, a great feeling to get that touchdown in and know that we stole the game with a little time to go.
