Wow what a game for the Auburn Tigers defense! Historically Georgia Southern is known for an outstanding running game but that info must have missed the front seven for the Tigers. Auburn gets the easy 41-7 win in front of a 87,451 crowd.
Auburn received the ball first and went to work. Georgia Southern defense was not able to stop them but was able to contain them on the opening drive that resulted in a 50 yard field goal by Daniel Carlson. The big play on this drive was a Jarrett Stidham pass complete to Sal Cannella for 19 yards.
Before the game started Jordan-Hare stadium was rocking and all I was thinking was I hope redshirt freshman Shai Werts and his offense are ready for this type of environment. They clearly were not. Nothing on offense was working and it appeared at times that Auburn was living in the back field. A key number that everyone noticed was 0 for 15 on 3rd down.
One great thing for the Eagles is although they gave up 41 points that sack and fumble recovery for a touchdown was beautiful. They ended the game with 3 sacks. Look for more of this as they play more Sunbelt teams.
After the 1st quarter it was all Auburn. The running game of Kam Martin and Kerryon Johnson was clearly a game of whatever you can do I can do better. Both had 136 yards , a touchdown and a run over 60 yards. Martin gets the edge because of the 10 yard catch. Auburn’s main man under center Jarrett Stidham had a pretty easy day going 14 of 24 for 185 and 2 touchdowns. Not much more to say on this. The real test will be next Saturday 7PM against Clemson.
