LAKELAND, Fla. — The quote defense wins championship was proven tonight as the Southeastern showed up and showed out. The heavy rain and lightning tried to stop this “Game of the Week between Warner University and Southeastern University. Southeastern Fire got on the board first with a 34-yard field goal by Caleb Winter. Warner Royals were not impressed with this and added their own scores. The first came when DJ Davis connected with Jayvon Young for 18 yards with 8:27 left in the 1st quarter. The next score came when Angel Puente booted a 24 yard field goal to take a 9-3 Royal lead. Southeastern offense tried to get something going on the next drive but Loronza Smith forced the fumble on Railond Garrett which was recovered by Travell Sherrod.
The Royals looked fired up and ready to go, then it happened. DJ Davis pass was intercepted by Alex Mack and he instantly turned into a man on a mission to get the ball in the end zone. He did not make it but, leading rusher Jarrell Reynolds punched it in 3 plays later on a 5 yard run to take the 10-9 lead. Warner got the ball back and started marching down the field again as planned. When DJ Davis pass was intercepted by Riley Crawford he made them pay for it with a 74 yard pick 6 to take the 17-9 lead at the half.
The second half was all Southeastern. Jarrel Reynold was able to break loose for a 76 yard touchdown run. Railond Garrett added another score on a 6 yard run. With the score 38-9 in the 4th quarter Railond Garrett number was called again to add another 6 yard touchdown. The last touchdown of the night came from Jordan Phillips on a 10 yard run. Final score for this one was 45-9!!
Next for Warner is travling to Florida Tech while Southeastern will host Concordia University
