10th anniversary of the MEAC/SWAC challenge

Orlando, Florida – On the 10th anniversary of the MEAC/SWAC challenge, Disney which hosted the event, did a great job of bringing in HBCU’s we rarely see in the area. Alabama A&M and North Carolina A&T faced off for the first time in school history.

The first points of the day went to Alabama A&M Kicker Cesar Ramon when he split the uprights from 30 yards out. On the next play Alabama A&M tried to catch the Aggies sleeping with an onside kick but unfortunately it did not work. With great IMG_0743field position following the failed onside kick by A&M, North Carolina got on the board after quarterback Kwashaun Quick ran for 26 yards to take a 7-3 lead. With sixteen seconds left in the first quarter the Bulldogs were unsuccessful on a third and three and Cesar Ramon was called in to add three more points with a field goal.

After the successful field goal by Ramon the game got out of hand for Bulldogs. The kickoff went to A&T’s Tony McRaeIMG_0764 and he sprinted his way to a 95 yard score to take the 14-6 lead which sparked an unanswered 38 points frenzy. Big plays will kill any defense and Quick scored his second touchdown of the game on a 59 yard run. Only two minutes later Tarik Cohen touches the ball and sprints for an 80 yard touchdown to increase the lead to 28-6. Cohen ended the game with two touchdowns and 161 yards on 10 carries. North Carolina A&T Kicker Cody Jones was perfect on the day with six extra points and a 37 yard field goal.

At the end of second quarter the A&T was leading by a score of 38-6. The only score of the third quarter came when A&T’s IMG_0747Marquell Cartwright ended a 74 yard drive with a five yard touchdown run. At this point in the game the crowd was rocking with the outstanding bands! The fourth quarter started with North Carolina A&T’s Brandon Eldermire fumbling the ball and the Bulldogs recovering. On third and four quarterback Brandon Wells connected with Tevin McKenzie for 45 yards to get in scoring range. Bryan Bower was unsuccessful two times at punching it in. On third and goal from the five Brandon Wells floated a pass to Jonathan Dorsey for the Bulldogs only touchdown of the game. The Aggies last score came from the defense after Dominic Frescura’s punt pinned the Bulldogs on their one yard line. James Morris gave them some room with an offside penalty but the defense smothered them for a six yard loss which resulted in a safety.

Sophomore Tarik Cohen was named the game’s MVP.
